Having the correct crimp tooling is critically important when fabricating cable assemblies using military spec connectors and terminal lugs. Complimented with connector assembly strap wrenches, torque tools / adapters, calibrated heat guns, vacuum chambers, etc., Each tool is meticulously tracked by a unique serial number, traceable to calibration records as applicable.

  1. Crimp Tooling Mil-Spec Connectors: Trek follows the guidelines of MIL-HDBK-1646A, Department of Defense handbook for the selection of electrical contacts, connectors and associated servicing tools which aids in Ensuring proper contact geometry: Military spec connectors have specific contact geometry requirements that are critical for the electrical and mechanical performance of the connector. For power contacts, coaxial contacts, quadrax contacts and crimp lug terminals, having the correct crimp tooling ensures that the contacts or lugs are crimped to the correct dimensions and shape, which is necessary for proper electrical contact and mechanical retention. Trek utilizes traditional hand crimp tools and uses high efficiency pneumatic crimp tools as well as hydraulic crimp tools for some of the larger Awg crimps.
  2. Minimizing the risk of damage: Crimping connectors with the wrong tooling can result in damage to the contacts or the connector body. This can lead to electrical or mechanical failure of the connector, which can result in costly rework or scrap.

These connectors use crimp contact wire gauges ranging from 22 Awg, for use with wires as small as 28 awg up to power crimp contacts at large 4/0 Awg.
